Estrella 103 — For Sale
I purchased Estrella 103, formerly named Justina 103, in February 2020. I understand that the previous owner had not used her for seven or eight years; however, she had been kept under cover during that time.
The boat was fitted out for cruising and, to my knowledge, was never raced by the previous owner.
Since purchasing her, I have stored her under cover in a dry agricultural building.
My previous boat, Estrella 52, was written off. I transferred all of the Harken deck equipment, together with the timber mast and boom, from Estrella 52 to Estrella 103.
This included:
- The timber mast and boom
- All running rigging
- All Harken deck equipment
I also removed a considerable amount of weight from the cockpit area, as shown in the photographs.
The boat was put into the water at the end of the 2020 season.
The engine currently installed in the boat was in working order but required a new glow plug.
Included in the Sale
- A new North Sails mainsail and jib, which have never been used.
- A well-used blue spinnaker.
- together with a small jib, large jib and mainsail.
- The trailer, which was serviced four years ago and fitted with new tyres, bearings and brake pads at a cost of £1,200. It has not been used since the service.
WEST System Work
The two yellow pages attached (LINK) provide details of extensive work previously carried out using the WEST System.
The work described includes:
- The hull lands were grooved and re-bonded using WEST System fillets, described as the recommended WEST method.
- The hull and decks were covered with 300-gram fibreglass mat using WEST System epoxy.
- A further four coats of WEST epoxy were applied down to the keel. • The work was undertaken in consultation with a WEST Resin representative, who visited several times.
- New mast bolts were set in WEST resin. • The mast foot was repaired and bonded using WEST resin. • The replacement boom was covered with 300-gram mat and WEST System epoxy.
- The underwater hull received three coats of WEST Copperbot, followed by three coats of a revised Copperbot product.
- The document concludes: “The West system has stiffened, lightened and strengthened the hull.”
The documentation therefore provides clear evidence that the WEST System was extensively used on the hull, decks, mast and boom.
IRC Certificate
The old IRC certificate link HERE.
I have bent the stanchions outwards by approximately 15°, as permitted under the IRC rules,
to enable the crew to sit further out on the deck.
