Starlight of Mersea

I am Cris Robinson and was the owner of Stella#4, Starlight of Mersea, built by Tucker Brown, West Mersea in 1960 if memory serves. For your info and to update the boat table, I bought her in Pwthelli, raced her with the Manchester Cruising Association, and then sailed her with my wife via Cork, Vigo, Lisbon, Gibraltar, and Canaries to Antigua, surviving a force ten gale off the Scillies and another from Vigo to Lisbon. We lived aboard and raced in English Harbour for a couple of years then went down-islands to Venezuela. Leaving Venezuela for Panama in 1973 we were wrecked on Las Aves, a small coral atoll off the Venezuelan coast. Sadly she was a total loss.

I recently published an article in Ocean Navigator magazine July issue about this event; https://oceannavigator.com/article/the-wreck-of-starlight/

Some of my ongoing adventures since then are told in my books; “A Small Slip” and “Desperate Deliveries” (in which I was AGAIN wrecked on Las Aves!), by Cris Robinson, both available as eBooks and paperbacks on Amazon Kindle Library.

Wishing you lucky Stella sailors all the best,

Cris Robinson
